Kulgam, January 03 (KNO): AIP President Er Rasheed on Thursday visited the residence of prominent pro-resistance leader Sarjan Barkati and expressed solidarity with the family. Speaking on the occasion, Er Rasheed said that Sarjan Barkati is being victimized for just speaking the trust and representing sentiments and aspirations of the masses. Er Rasheed as per a statement issued to KNO later talked to media persons challenged J&K Police to prove anything against Sarjan Barkati. “All the cases against Sarjan Barkati are fake and fabricated and security agencies have chocked the space for any peaceful political activity,” he said. He added that may anyone in the establishment answer that had Sarjan Barkati ever indulged in violence or thrown a stone on anyone. “His only fault is that he has been constantly talking about resolution of Kashmir issue and implementation of UN resolutions, which by no standards is a crime,” AIP president added. Er Rasheed said New Delhi must explain if people like Sarjan Barkati too are put behind bars without any proper charges against him, what has New Delhi to offer those holding arms in their hands. “While Sarjan Barkati is the lone bread earner of his family, government has no right to deprive his children from getting better education, which they are not able to get in absence of their beloved father. Denial of proper education to kids of Sarjan Barkati has exposed tall claims of Modi government about its programme Beti Bachao Beti Padao,” he said. Er Rasheed sought unconditional release of Sarjan Barkati and other political activists languished in various jails since years together. He also urged authorities to release Parvaiz Ahmad Pala son of Mohd Ayub of Matbugh who is languishing in Sub Jail Anantnag and is suffering from a chronic disease. “Denial of treatment is violation of fundamental rights of the prisoner and there is no justification in playing with the life of Parvaiz Ahmad Pala. Government must understand that politics of victimization and suppression will not help and New Delhi needs to understand that Sarjan Barkati, Parvaiz Ahmad Pala and dozens likewise are not criminals but political prisoners, seeking political rights for people of J&K,” he said.(KNO)
